Klaipėda is the third largest city in Lithuania, but its population is decreasing, while its suburbs are expanding and growing. This study reveals population migration to Klaipėda suburbs at the level of the smallest administrative unit – elderships. This helps with sufficient precision to identify not only the most attractive suburban residential areas, but also to determine the social-demographic problems faced by the local population. Due to uneven population change and structure, there is already a shortage of educational institutions and educators in some elderships. In the remote elderships from Klaipėda city, the population is rapidly aging, the unemployment rate is relatively higher than in other elderships, and the connection with the Klaipėda city by public transport is insufficient. Proposals for administrations of elderships and district municipalities are formulated taking into account the trends of population change. Comparative analysis, cartographic analysis, document analysis, expert interview method and others were applied in this study.

Abstract
The article focuses on ethical dilemmas caused by accidentally found artefacts from the necropolises of Klaipėda Region that no longer have clear attribute references (tombstones or details of their decoration, epitaph tables, fragments of crosses, etc). The problems are related to the identification of such findings, the establishment of their environmental protection and museum value (whether they are to be protected, exhibited, or valueless), their potential use (as objects of research or of technological interest, memorial objects, raw materials for restoration, etc.), and their fate. As proved by experience, part of the artefacts are a valuable source of information about the materials used by the craftsmen of the 19th to mid-20th c., details of decoration, the skills, and technological and colourist resolutions. The artefacts with no clear attribute references can be used for instrumental analysis: for the identification of the composition and structure of ceramics, metal, paints, and glaze; however, the fate of an artefact primarily depends on the moral decision of a person who found (appropriated, or dismantled) it.

Abstract
Archaeological excavations in one of the Old Town areas around Kurpių Street have provided new and valuable information
for research related to urban development in the 16th and 17th centuries. Previously accomplished complex research into archaeological, historical, palaeobotanical and zooarchaeological material enabled us to go deeper into both the constructional development of the area and the daily life of the citizens. This article presents up-to-date results from research into zooarchaeological material from one plot on Kurpių Street from the mid-16th century to the second half of the 17th century. On the basis of this data and published historical sources, an analysis is made of some unexplored aspects relating to features of animal breeding and butchering among the local population in the 16th and 17th centuries. It also includes an evaluation of animal osteometric data. The results are compared with data from other Lithuanian records. The insights presented add to our slender knowledge about the nutrition of locals at that time and their daily life.

Abstract
The article analyses material related to glass bottles excavated in Klaipėda (Memel) Old Town. Firstly, this is material from Žvejų St 4 and 6, and the area around Tomo, Didžiojo Vandens, Vežėjų and Pasiuntinių streets. Early glass bottles found in this area could even date from the 16th century, whereas the peak in the local consumption of beverages in bottles is related to the second half of the 18th century and the 19th century. Four major types of local glass bottles are distinguished in this work. Subtypes of extant or partly restored bottles are also introduced. Attempts are made throughout the entire research to answer the questions how much and in what way the bottles discovered in Klaipėda Old Town reflect general patterns of lifestyle in Western and Central Europe in the context of modern times.
In the 12th century, the Curonians dwelt in the east Baltic region between the Rīga area in the north and Klaipėda in the south. They reached the peak of their economic, political and cultural achievements in the 11th century and the first half of the 12th century. The roots of piracy as a phenomenon have a social character. The most active period of the Curonian Vikings begins in around the mid-tenth century, and lasts until the arrival of the Germans in the 13th century. The well-organised piracy of the Curonians became dangerous to navigation on an important maritime trading route along the east Baltic coast. The Curonians attacked traders’ boats, robbed coastal churches, devastated Danish and Swedish coastal areas, and even stayed for a while. In the times of the Teutonic Order, in periods of diplomatic and military conflict or trading competition, even officials did not avoid robbery at sea. The Palanga coastal population used to plunder shipwrecked boats, and went marauding in coastal waters until the middle of the 18th century.
