This article analyses the correct use of phrases with the verb taikyti. It discusses the semantic structure of the word, and its different interpretations in dictionaries of the Lithuanian language. Data is collected from the ‘Corpus of the Modern Lithuanian Language’, sources about various functional styles, and a survey. It shows the real contemporary usage of the verb taikyti in texts related to health. The correctness of the use of the examples collected is analysed, and special attention is paid to problematic cases that require a more detailed analysis. The research indicates that for some phrases with taikyti which users view as correct, better contextual equivalents can be found.

The article explores the rhetorical elocution of speeches given by the most famous American business leaders, seen from the point of view of persuasiveness. The aim of the research is to analyse the figurative expression of the speeches in question, to determine and generalise the most common elements of their rhetorical stylistics. Fifty speeches by American business leaders, given on various occasions in the period 1981 to 2020, were chosen and analysed for this article. The research is intended to reveal how various rhetorical figures used by contemporary orators serve as tools for persuasion and emotive argumentation.

The article analyses the conscious use of the principle of ethnocentrism in the perception and understanding of Lithuanian vocabulary at the level of short-term education in courses in the Lithuanian language and culture. The use of the methods of analogy and association allowed users of East Slavic languages to identify shared and different characteristics with their native language. Common features include vocabulary with phonetic consonances, among which internationalisms make up a separate group. Various signs are associated with ‘false friends’ and diphthongs.

The article examines the main approaches to the analysis of A. Bely’s poetry, determines the most relevant and productive strategies, and critically comprehends the religious and philosophical views, motifs and images of his contemporaries. It presents an analytical review of articles, reviews, and the first monograph, as well as diaries, memoirs and notes of contemporaries, allowing us to consider Bely against the background of the era, and to identify features of his religious and poetic consciousness.

В статье исследуется жизненный путь одного из аристократов Великого Княжества Литовского позднее ставшего подданным Российской империи Людвика Скумин-Тышкевича (1748–1808). Это был человек, которому повезло не только избежать репрессий или лишений во времена суровых перемен, но и войти в элиту тогдашнего общества, получить доверие новой власти. В исследовании анализируется карьерные траектории аристократа и изучается причины, благодаря которым представитель не самого могущественного рода Литвы сумел попасть в элиту тогдашнего общества.

The article analyses proverbs that mention bread. The aim is to reveal how bread is treated in Lithuanian proverbs, and to provide an analysis of the image of bread. It analyses Lithuanian proverbs in which bread is treated as a meal, as well as symbolic meanings and the personification of bread. Stylistic analysis, interpretation and description methods are used in the preparation of the article. Material published in the compendium ‘Lithuanian Proverbs and Sayings’ was mostly used.

The article analyses the role of museums in today’s society, in order to discuss features of the live reconstruction of Christmas Eve customs in Lithuanian museums. The main tasks are to analyse the visual ethnography of the Christmas Eve table, and to show how performativity in museums helps to implement the concept of the new museology in Lithuania. Empirical data were collected during participatory observations in six Lithuanian museums in 2017 and 2018. The comparative, interpretative and analytical methods were applied in the research. The result allows us to shape the museum as a space for changing and renewing the dynamic process, where a rich field of interpretations is constantly being constructed, thanks to the interaction between the educator and the participants, or to the participants alone. The museum is seen as an unpredictable space, a space for strengthening community, a play space.

The article discusses the question of whether everyday life in an ordinary small Lithuanian town is indeed inactive, stagnant, empty and immobile. Mobility in everyday life is analysed through the habits of locals in the town of Josvainiai, and relations with the nearest cities and relatives living abroad. In analysing mobility, the main focus is on areas of everyday life such as work, consumption, communication and leisure. The article analyses data from a field study carried out in Josvainiai from July 2019 to January 2020.

According to 15th to 18th-century written sources, priests-vaidiluciai, successors to the servants of the cult of the pre-Christian religion, performed various duties, including therapeutic activities. Descriptions in sources indicate that the nature of the therapeutic assistance they provided varied according to the magic activity they performed. The healing activities of vaidiluciai have not been systematically studied. This article extends the analysis of data on the therapeutic activities of different groups of vaidiluciai in 15th to 18th-century written folk sources, and identifies the reflection of these activities in 15th to 18th-century folk medicine based on archive records and healing faith records. The research helps to trace the meaning and origin of some therapeutic methods of folk medicine, and the possible development of traditions.
