The scientific articles published in this issue cover various areas of social sciences. In this volume, both theoretical and empirical research articles can be found.

The study has been conducted within the ERASMUS+ KA2 partnership project “Improving the initial education of adult immigrants”. Research is based on the anonymous survey in which took part 1127 legal adult immigrants from outside the European Union. The study was performed in 2017 in the six European Union countries: Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and Belgium. The purpose of this article is to investigate how information about the host country before immigration is related to immigrants’ basic sociodemographic characteristics, i.e.: age, gender and education. Statistical data analysis showed a statistically significant difference between the information, which immigrants knew before their arrival in the host country, and education as well as age groups. However, there were no statistically significant differences found between the information, which immigrants knew before their arrival in the host country, and immigrants’ gender. Moreover, information that immigrants lack most prior to their arrival is related with health care and the employment system as well as the ability to learn the hosting country’s official language.

This study aims to reveal the evolution of the EU-Japan relations towards a comprehensive and fully formalized strategic partnership, the main determinants of that process, as well the importance of the political and economic alliance. In the evolution of the EU-Japan relations, there were identified four stages – 1960–1990, 1991–2000, 2001–2010, 2011–2018 – which had led up to a strategic partnership regulated under the framework of political and economic agreements. In future, the Strategic Partnership Agreement and the Economic Partnership Agreement might enhance the regional and global influence of the EU and Japan.

Europos Sąjungos civilinio proceso teisė, nors turėjo galimybių vystytis nuo pat Europos Ekonominės Bendrijos sukūrimo, savo plėtros pagreitį įgavo Europos Sąjungai suteikus kompetenciją civilinio proceso klausimus reglamentuoti antriniais ES teisės aktais. Nors šioje srityje priimta nemažai instrumentų, vis dėlto dėl riboto jų taikymo (tik tarpvalstybinėms situacijoms) jie pasitelkiami retai, taigi neužtikrina visų ES piliečių teisių apsaugos. Susiklosčiusi situacija, kai tą patį klausimą reglamentuoja tiek nacionalinė, tiek ES teisė, taip pat neleidžia visų teisingumui vykdyti skirtų išteklių panaudoti tinkamai ir veiksmingai. Atlikus tyrimą siūloma plėsti taikomo ES reglamentavimo civiliniame procese sritį ir taikyti bendras taisykles sprendžiant tiek nacionalinius, tiek tarptautinius ginčus.

Straipsnyje pateiktas naujas požiūris į austrų ekonomikos mokyklos verslo ciklų teoriją. Požiūris grindžiamas nauja bendrųjų procentų idėja. Bendrai pristatoma pati austrų verslo ciklo teorija. Straipsnyje parodoma, kad egzistuoja iki šiol nepakankamai ištirtas austrų verslo ciklo papildymo aspektas, pasireiškiantis kaip bendrųjų procentų augimo normos priklausomybė nuo rinkos prisotinimo laipsnio. Atliktas tyrimas rodo, kad atsiskleidė nauji austrų verslo ciklų teorijos analizės, orientuojantis į bendruosius procentus, aspektai, leidę geriau suprasti verslo ciklų fenomeną, ypač empiriškai paaiškinti finansinius burbulus.

Darnia plėtra siekiama išsaugoti ne tik dabarties žmonijos, bet ir ateities kartų galimybes tenkinti savo poreikius, pagrįstus žmogaus vertybėmis. Siekdamas darnios plėtros, žmogus negali ignoruoti socialinių ir ekonominių aspektų, nes tai tampa jo gerovės pagrindu, kartu saugant gamtą su visais jos ištekliais. Ekologinis švietimas padeda suvokti esamos ekologinės problematikos, pasiekusios kritinį lygį, mastą ir pavojus. Dėl klaidingo požiūrio į ekologinį švietimą daugelis žmonių turi menkai išvystytą poreikį praktiškai spręsti ekologines problemas, nes požiūris į gamtą dažnai yra vartotojiškas. Siekiant formuoti ekologinį sąmoningumą, reikia žmonių, kurie išmanytų ekologiją, būtų racionaliai mąstantys, gebėtų priimti teisingus, pagrįstus sprendimus. Tai kelia naujus uždavinius švietimo sistemai, kurių sprendimas padės teigiamai keisti socialines ir ekologines sąlygas, politinį ir ideologinį gyvenimą. Švietimas, išryškinantis žmogaus dorybes, prisidedantis prie visuomenės raidos, suteikiantis žinių apie žmogaus savigarbą, charakterį ir socialinę elgseną, tampa akstinu gelbėti pasaulį. Ekologinio švietimo ir ekologinės kultūros potencialo derinys gali ir turi būti pagrindas, ugdant šiuolaikinio žmogaus sąmoningumą ir jo kūrybinę mąstyseną.

This paper evaluates the impact of corruption on deforestation in Indonesia. The world’s nature environment and global warming questions are one of the main factors of international concerns. Massive deforestation threatens Indonesian biodiversity. This research paper analyses issues of whether deforestation in Indonesia is caused by corruption and supported by crude palm oil production. This issue was questioned earlier by using Engel Granger cointegration test, three time series of data, specifically corruption perception index (CPI), rate of deforestation and price of crude palm oil that was inspected for a long-run relationship. Yet long-run relationship was not found. The author of this article shows that while answering this question, CPI values are not as important as the very nature of corruption in Indonesia. However, CPI is still extremely high in Indonesia as the nature of corruption is convenient for illegal logging. Thus, international response is needed so that to decrease the level of deforestation in Indonesia. With the new European Union Law that requires legal sourcing of wood products, Indonesia commits to enforce new rules in the Asia’s largest rainforest. For example, FLEGT licensing became operational on November 15, 2016. The European Union is strictly enforcing these rules what is a good step against deforestation in hand with illegal logging in Indonesia. In this way to analyse in detail the FLEGT programme and the EU activities, is beyond the scope of this paper. There stays questioned the Indonesian Presidents’ ban on new palm oil plantations and mining licence, because such approach can potentially increase corruption and unofficial economy at local levels. The author of this paper wants to fulfil the gap in understanding about the link between deforestation in Indonesia and corruption. The level of corruption in Indonesia is not the main issue, but the nature of corruption is the main problem.

The purpose of this paper is to provide an initial description of youth policy and highlight some relevant data. There has been conducted a survey in the framework of CaSYPoT project (Capacity Building for Strategic Youth Policy and Transnational Cooperation) under the Interreg South Baltic Programme 2014–2020 (Project No. STHB.05.01.00-SE-0024/15). The overall aim of this project is to encourage young people to get involved into local democracy and to present the youth as the resource in the development of society and democracy. The goal of the project is the survey that was carried out in Klaipėda municipality, in the period of April–May 2017. Thus, the article analyses the findings of this survey. The questionnaire contained questions addressing young people’s well-being and safety in their neighbourhood and at school, as well as their experience getting involved in the municipality work and their influence on its decisions. The target group of the survey was young people aged 16–19.

Straipsnyje analizuojamos neuroekonomikos teorinės koncepcijos, pagrindiniai aspektai ir nustatytos esminės sąsajos su neurorinkodara. Kita vertus, pagrindinis dėmesys straipsnyje skiriamas nuostolių baimės efekto analizei neuroekonomikos aspektu. Nors mokslininkai diskutuoja apie nuostolių baimės efektą, jo svarbą neuromokslams, tačiau pastebimas tokio pobūdžio tyrimų trūkumas Lietuvoje. Taigi šis straipsnis skiriamas išsamesnėms nuostolių baimės efekto teorinio pobūdžio interpretacijoms neuroekonomikoje. Siekiama, išanalizavus teorinius aspektus, atlikti nuostolių baimės efekto analizę neuroekonomikos aspektu, taikant mokslinės literatūros sisteminimo, lyginamosios analizės ir atvejo (nuostolio baimės efekto) metodus, bei pateikti pagrindines teorines interpretacijas. Atlikus analizę sistemiškai pateikiamos teorinės nuostolių baimės efekto interpretacijos neuroekonomikoje, identifikuotos smegenų sritys, susijusios su iracionalių ekonominių sprendimų priėmimu ir išsiaiškinta, kad neuroekonomika gali paaiškinti nuostolių baimės efekto pasireiškimą.

Kiekvienoje sėkmingoje organizacijoje labai svarbus yra vadovo ir darbuotojų gebėjimas suprasti vienas kitą bei sėkmingai kartu dirbti komandoje. Šiuo metu vis dažniau akcentuojamas ir nagrinėjamas naujas įgalinimo terminas – tai vadovo veiksmai darbuotojo atžvilgiu, siekiant sėkmingai įgyvendinti organizacijos tikslus. Remiantis moksliniais šaltiniais, straipsnyje atskleidžiama vadovavimo samprata ir esmė, analizuojami teoriniai vadovavimo aspektai. Išanalizuota žmogiškųjų išteklių svarba organizacijoje ir apibūdinta žmogiškųjų išteklių įgalinimo koncepto erdvė bei tipologija. Atliktas vadovų vaidmens, įgalinant žmogiškuosius išteklius, organizacijoje tyrimas.
